Subsea Excavation Team Leader

Due to the growth of our subsea excavation business Rotech is seeking new offshore Team Leaders and Trainee Team Leaders.

You will be responsible for delivering successful offshore excavation operations, liaising directly with the on-board client rep, and typically managing a team of five technicians to ensure the reliable operation and safe launch and recovery of the equipment.

Your projects will typically be in European waters but may be worldwide. Duty rotas are variable, so flexibility is essential. Typical excavation equipment spreads include a hydraulic power unit and hydraulic spooler on deck, and hydraulically driven subsea jet pumps. These are world-leading tools used for the excavation of subsea trenches for cables and pipes, and for the burial or de-burial of other subsea structures.

Key skills:

  • Sound technical skills, with experience of working with hydraulics and diesel-driven systems, preferably offshore.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • A calm and confident approach to problem solving in high-pressure situations.
  • A can-do attitude with a determination to get the job done successfully.
  • A professional approach to dealing with clients and managing your team.
  • An uncompromising adherence to health and safety practices.
  • Excellent oral and written communication.

  • Ability to manage, mentor and train subordinate team members.
  • Experience of operating subsea excavation or ROV equipment is an advantage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing the mobilisation, operation, and de-mobilisation of the excavation equipment.
  • Operating the excavation equipment to achieve clients’ burial or de-burial specifications.
  • Managing a team of five technicians to ensure equipment is maintained, deployed, and operated correctly.
  • Liaising directly with the offshore client rep and with Rotech head office.
  • Keeping and dispatching accurate daily logs of activities.
  • Organising all aspects of Rotech’s offshore operation.
  • Attending HAZID, HIRA and other client meetings pre and post project as required.

This position carries a top salary package and excellent off-shore bonus day rates.

Apprentice Mechanical Fitter/Offshore Technician

Rotech is a technology-driven group of companies providing innovative products to the oil & gas, renewables, decommissioning and energy industries from our headquarters in Aberdeen. As part of our ongoing recruitment and staff development programme, we are looking to employ an Apprentice Mechanical Fitter/Offshore Technician as part of a growing team within our Subsea/Engineering business with our Controlled Flow Excavation Equipment (CFE) either in a maintenance or operational role.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, driven, individual who is willing to learn and can work well both independently and within a team. The apprentice will be supported to develop a safe attitude, a questioning mind and an ability to use initiative to meet and resolve challenges. Although the apprentice will, additionally, be expected to regularly attend North East of Scotland College (NESCOL) to gain job-related skills and qualifications, mentoring will be done in the workplace by an experienced tradesman.

  • Operating diesel driven hydraulic machinery
  • Maintaining Rotech excavators, spoolers and power units
  • Installing, testing, setting and adjusting instruments and machinery
  • Diagnosing and repairing faults with Rotech equipment
  • Preparing and carrying out maintenance programmes to keep machinery running efficiently
  • Maintaining, testing and operating subsea survey systems to ensure offshore projects are carried out to client specifications
  • Recording and storing data
  • Interacting with clients
  • Projects/Yard HSE procedures and requirements

Qualifications/Training Required:

  • Nat 5 Mathematics
  • Nat 4 English
